What it is
Most dirt work is really water work.
Shaping dirt is the easy half. Deciding where the water goes is the half that determines whether you're happy with it in three years.
A pad that's dead level looks right and holds water against your slab. A drive with no crown turns into a rut. A ditch cut to the wrong grade moves the problem to your neighbour. Getting fall right — a little, consistently, in the correct direction — is most of the job.
So before anything moves we want to know where the water comes from, where it's going now, and where it should be going instead.

If the property still has to be cleared first, that's the same job to us — the trees come off, the stumps come out, and the machine that's already sitting there shapes the ground.
That's usually cheaper and always simpler than clearing with one outfit and grading with another, and nobody gets to blame the other guy for what the ground does afterwards.

Questions about this work
Do you haul in dirt, or just move what's here?
Both, depending on what the job needs. Moving what's already on site is cheaper when there's a high spot that wants to come down anyway. When there isn't enough material, fill has to come in and that's a haul cost on top.
Can you build a pad to a specific elevation?
Yes. If you have a surveyor's elevation or a builder's spec, bring it and we'll build to it. If you don't, we'll set it relative to what's around it so it drains.
How long before I can build on a new pad?
Compaction and weather decide that, not us. A pad that's been built up needs to be compacted properly as it goes, and it wants time and dry weather before heavy loads. Your builder or engineer should have the final say.
